When working on ‘Hossam, Only Smile’, the artist actually planned just to capture diverse expressions of a Muslim. However, Hossam absolutely refused and said to capture “not sad, not angry, only smiling.” An Egyptian immigrant, he lives in Korea to survive and be a Muslim.
The artist decided not to capture Hossam’s angry face but created a short text film. ‘Hossam, Only Smile’ (2020) and the drawing of a smiling Hossam next to this film, No Sad, No Angry, Only Smile (2020),
